Engineering for
iconic
venues

Fast Flow has been trusted to design and install drainage systems for some of the world's most iconic sporting venues — including Beijing's National Stadium (Bird's Nest) for the 2008 Olympics, Singapore's Sports Hub (the world's largest dome), and EduCity Sports Complex in Johor Bahru. These projects demonstrate Fast Flow's capability to deliver on the most complex and high-profile engineering assignments.

Singapore Sports Hub - largest dome structure in the world with openable roof
Largest dome structure in the world · 312m diameter · Retractable roof area of 19,500m²
Challenges
  • At 312m diameter, the Sports Hub is the world's largest dome structure, generating a total drainage demand of 5,250 l/s that conventional systems could not accommodate.
  • Its 19,500m² retractable roof creates a dynamic drainage challenge: capacity requirements shift significantly between open and closed configurations, demanding a fully adaptive engineering solution.
  • The column-free steel dome sits above a vast basement carpark, requiring rainwater to travel 160m horizontally from the dome edge to the nearest drain connection, with no available fall.
Solutions
  • Fast Flow redesigned the drainage system to just 20 siphonic stacks, strategically positioned along a ring drainage channel, achieving the full 5,250 l/s capacity with minimal infrastructure.
  • Through meticulous 3D BIM coordination, all siphonic outlets and pipework are fully concealed within the steel dome structure, preserving the architectural integrity of the building throughout.
  • Siphonic engineering enables large-bore drainage pipes to travel the full 160m above the basement carpark at zero gradient, eliminating any need for drop height and protecting critical headroom.
Achievements
  • Draining 5,250 l/s with only 20 siphonic stacks — a world-class feat of hydraulic engineering precision that redefines what is achievable in large-span roof drainage.
  • Siphonic systems seamlessly integrated within the dome structure, invisible to visitors, preserving the visual impact of one of Asia's most celebrated sporting venues.
  • 160m horizontal drainage pipe without slope delivers significant headroom savings across the entire basement carpark, protecting usable space and structural clearance.
